Introducing our Easy-to-Read Text and Photo Recipes

Tasty Tuna and Vegetable Bake

A couple of weeks ago I was searching for a recipe for a group of students and I couldn’t find it. I knew I had a symbol/photo version but that particular group are text readers so I quickly removed the symbols and used the words and photos version. That lesson went so well I decided to make all our recipes available in an easy-to-read text/photo version – as well as the Widgit symbol versions we already have available.

To start us off here are three of our most popular recipes in the easy-to-read text/photo version. They, and all of our other recipes, will shortly be available to download for free on our recipes page.

Tasty Tuna and Vegetable Bake

This is a quick, inexpensive and tasty main meal. It’s easy to increase the amounts to serve a family or group of people. The photos show how to make the recipe with the ingredients as shown but you could vary it to suit your own taste – changing the tinned vegetables for different ones, using a white sauce or a bread sauce instead of cheese sauce, and using any flavour packet of crisps you fancy. You could also make a veggie version as there are now very good vegetarian alternatives for tuna, cheese and milk easily available.

Muffin Pizzas

These tasty muffin pizzas are so easy to make; perfect for a lesson, a group activity or making a light lunch at home. Like any pizza you can vary the topping to include your favourites (or to sneak just a few veggies into someone’s diet!). You could use ready grated cheese or add a little more challenge by making grating the cheese part of the activity.

Afghan Cookies

Finally a family favourite – the deliciously chocolatey Afghan Cookies. James and I have made these together many times.

I hope our recipes will be useful or have given you some inspiration. Do keep an eye on our recipes page for the new text/photo versions of all our sweet and savoury recipes. If there is a particular recipe yo would like to suggest we add then please do let us know.
