How to Make this Pretty Patchwork Heart Valentine’s Card

Valentine's card

All you need to make this pretty Valentine’s card is an old magazine, a piece of ribbon and coloured card. Just add glue and scissors and our Widgit symbol and photo instructions, which are free to download below.

It’s that time of year again. The shops are full of Valentine’s cards and the students are planning a disco and talking about who they would like to make a Valentine’s card for. If you’ve got quite a few people to provide resources for it can be a bit pricey, so here’s a pretty idea for a Valentine’s card that doesn’t require much at all. All you need is two colours of card, some old magazines and some ribbon (if you are anything like me you’ll have a box of ribbons salvaged from gift bags etc. ready for projects like this😀).

Tips and Suggestions

❤️ The card pictured above is made from an A4 sheet of card cut in half then folded – so two cards can be made from one A4 sheet. Four of the differently coloured pieces to stick on top can be made from one A4 sheet.

❤️ The heart template (provided below) can be printed directly onto card to save having to print it out and then draw round it.

❤️ The heart templates are on a word document so the heart sizes are adjustable. Just click on a heart and adjust it to make it whatever size you need.

Flattening the Valentine's card
Press the finished card under a heavy book for an hour

❤️ You could play with the design – make it with two smaller hearts, or make a bigger card with more hearts or one large one on.

❤️ To make sure all the layers stick together well you could press the card under a heavy book for a while once it’s finished.

❤️ This would make a great Mother’s Day card too. You could choose to make the card and the heart in Mum’s favourite colours 🌈
