I love these cute twig reindeers. They are simple to make but look really effective. Last year one of my classes made quite a few of these – we gave them as little thank you gifts to people who donated to our food bank appeal. They looked fantastic all pinned on our wallboard – a herd of reindeer waiting to go to their new homes! You can make them all look the same with Rudolph red noses but it’s fun to individualise them too. These fun painted wiggle eyes from The Range add character!

Making Tips

🦌In the instructions below I suggest cutting the twigs to 11cm, but you can make the reindeer in any size. The smaller you go the more fiddly though, and the more of a challenge to those fine motor skills.

🦌You can cut the twigs with a small saw (which my students love), or secateurs, or even snap them with your fingers. Have a piece of sandpaper to hand if you are going to break them to smooth any sharp points (another favourite student job😃).

several buttons

🦌Googly eyes are fun but you could also cut out white circles and colour them with black felt tip to make eyes.

🦌Save up old buttons to use for reindeer noses. Save up scraps of nice shiny card too. They could be used for cutting out noses as well – not everybody wants to make Rudolph.

🦌Fix the ribbon knot on the twig with a touch of glue to stop it coming undone or sliding around.

I hope you enjoy making the reindeer. If you like this project why not try our other symbolised twig craft projects: How to Make a Pretty Twig Christmas Star Decoration or Make a Pretty Twig Tealight Candle Holder. Both perfect Christmas activities!
