These Christmas Star decorations are really easy to make – you can download the symbolised instructions below – but they look really effective. You can leave them quite plain and add brightly coloured ribbons for hanging. Or you could add more decorations in festive colours. See below for some ideas.

Making Tips

flower patterned glue gun

⭐️ My students love using the glue gun. I find a mini glue gun is perfect for the job. My cheap and cheerful one came from The Range. Just squeezing a little glue out is the tricky part but any long bits hanging off the twigs can be snipped away with sharp scissors once it’s dry.

⭐️When making the stars with my students I usually suggest cutting the twigs to about 11cm, as in the symbolised instructions below. This is a good size to handle and makes a nice-sized star for a living room or corridor tree. If the twigs are too short it can be fiddly to make all the points join up.

⭐️Try to cut lengths from straighter pieces of twig to make joining up at the points easier. If you have got a curvy twig it’s usually easier to place it if you save that one ’til last.

⭐️Add decorations to the stars. My students like to stick on buttons, foil sequins, wrap the twigs in bright wool, or sprinkle them with glitter. I wrapped a silver ribbon round one of my twigs to add a touch of shimmer to one of my stars pictured above. Just secure each end with a little drop of glue from the hot melt glue gun.

⭐️ You can use a small saw or secateurs to cut the twigs. They could even be broken by hand, though this can be a bit less precise. Any sharp edges can be smoothed off with a little sandpaper.

Have fun making some stars ⭐️. If you enjoy making this twig craft project why not check out my symbolised instructions for making a pretty twig tealight candle holder – perfect for a seasonal gift or for the Christmas table.
