Grandparents’ Day is a relatively new celebration. Celebrated in countries around the world it was established here in the UK in 1990. It falls on the first Sunday of October each year, this year it will be celebrated on Sunday 2nd October. It’s a day for showing grandparents just how special they are – and what could do that better than a handmade gift? This Rustic Rope Flowerpot requires just 4 items to make. You can find the free-to-download Widgit symbol and photo instructions below.

Making Tips

📿 An old plastic flowerpot works perfectly well for this project. Just make sure it’s clean and dry before you start.

📿 Rope can be bought, quite inexpensively, from such stores as The Range or Wilko.

📿 If you haven’t already got a glue gun they are available at The Range or other craft stores. They are a handy tool to have for DIY or craft projects. I love mine as you can see from a look at our craft projects page 😃.

📿 When sticking the rope on to the pot hold the rope onto the glue for a moment until you feel it has stuck so that the rope doesn’t fall away. If you are supporting someone to do this activity just feel for yourself how warm the plastic is getting when the hot glue goes on, people can be more or less sensitive to heat and the plastic will likely feel warm.

📿 If your length of rope runs out part way down your pot secure the end well with glue then start the next length of rope right next to it, securing well with glue.

📿 Make sure that the point will stand steady and level. Don’t take the rope so low that it goes below the bottom of the pot and makes it wobble.

📿 For a neat finish try to end your pot wrapping at the bottom in line with where you started at the top. Secure the end well with glue.
