An Easy, Stylish Father’s Day Card To Make For Car-Loving Dads

Father’s Day is fast approaching so I’ve been looking for a card for my young adult students to make. I think my group will love this idea – they’ll get to use the computer to make it!
Father's day cards to make

Father’s Day is the 18th of June this year, so soon my group will be making cards for their dads or other special people in their lives. My students are keen on using the computers so they’ll be happy with this design – and it will give them an opportunity to practise lots of computers skills such as changing the colour of their text, recognising when there is a red squiggly line which means they need to check their spelling and so on. I have to confess that this practise run has also challenged my skills – getting the paper in the right way up to print the text on the cars took more than one go!

What You Need

You need just a few things to make these cards. The main one is access to a computer with a printer. Other than that it’s just a sheet of A4 card and a sheet of A4 paper per Father’s Day card, scissors and glue.

How To Make The Cards

Step 1: You need a blank car outline. You could use those I have provided here or have a search for a free downloadable outline on the internet. My students will probably enjoying looking and choosing one themselves – we’ll give them the search words written on a whiteboard to copy. Print out the chosen outline on A4 portrait.

Step 2: Make a page of greeting text using word. The text might say ‘Happy Father’s Day’, ‘To the best dad’, ‘I love you, Dad’ or whatever personalised message the maker chooses. They can change the font colours to make it Dad’s favourite colour or have it in a variety of colours. The examples I made are in shades of green and blue and font size 16.

Step 3: Load the pre-printed car outline into the printer and then print the greeting text over the car. Hint: set the margins to narrow for this print so that you get maximum coverage on the page to cover the car.

Cut out the car. This is the trickier bit where a bit more help might be needed.

Step 4: Fold a sheet of A4 card in half to make a landscape card. Stick on the car. If you’ve got card to spare then double mounting looks nice too. If there is time it’s a good idea to flatten the completed card under a heavy book to just make sure the edges of the car are nicely stuck down.

I hope you liked this idea. If you are looking for other ideas for Father’s Day gifts check out the Nuts About Dad Heart Art or the Rustic Rope Flowerpot on our crafts page.
